Jays buying into baserunning program by dylan89in Torontobluejays

Not enough can be said about the spectacular job both Butterfield and Lovullo do with this team. I would love to see Butterfield as the Manager at some point, hopefully sooner than later, but for now am satisfied knowing we have one of the best in the game at his job.

If you don't think that continuing to throw out Cordero in save situations and stubbornly keeping Lind in the cleanup spot cost us between 4-6 games this year already then you, sir, are the idiot.

This year is too small a sample size, we all know Frasor is decent but not spectacular. For his career he's 27%, last year 25% and last time he pitched for the Jays 30%.

Perez? Frasor is shaky with inherited runners and if the Rays had a speedier guy on first they would've scored a run there.

And Farrell brings in the wrong guy for the umpteenth time in the past 2 years. He does not help us win ball games with his decisions, plain and simple.

Why he put in Crawford and not Perez is beyond me...we have a +20 run differential on the second best in our division and we continue to lose games due to stupidity.

EDIT: I think Farrell needs to start taking some heat for some of these losses. We're just as talented as any team in the division AND have been extremely fortunate with injuries this year, compared to the other teams, so he has no excuses. The unreal mishandling of the bullpen (for the second year in a row) and stubbornly keeping Lind in the cleanup spot have cost us multiple games this year and we're only 44 games in. I wonder when fans will really start to call him out.

Wow Buck and Pat must have never toured the 100 level this year because they have those beer fillers from the bottom there this year. o_o

That could be a dangerous team. They should call themselves the Inglorious Basterds.

Random dudes with more home runs than Pujols by wencyjonesin baseball

[–]rsrsrsrs 3 points4 points ago

Even more so with Arencibia. 23 homers in 129 games last year. If he wasn't a catcher and played a full slate of games he would hit 30-35 every year easy, he has a ridiculous amount of pop in that bat.

Brett Lawrie suspended 4 games for his actions by TheMicrowavein baseball

[–]rsrsrsrs 7 points8 points ago

Probably. Just glad it didn't land a foot further directly on the ump's leg because if Delmon Young got 50 for weakly tossing a bat at an ump, Lawrie would've been gone for the season. A game of inches!

Never said worst call. Said worst strike call.

I'll agree to disagree. I guess that's what makes baseball great.

Agreed, bad call, I'm just not sure you saw both the Lawrie calls...

Bad call but at least an argument can be made it crossed the plate at some point. There's no argument for the Lawrie call.

Yes, go type in "Ball" in Google and you'll find it.

The worse STRIKE call ever, absolutely. By far. That's why I posed the challenge, I'm that sure.

Borderline???? I challenge you to show me a video of a worse strike call. Any game. Any era. Challenge accepted?

Checking in with almost 3 decades and never seen a worse strike call.

Ya I think you're right. I'm usually good with umpire names but I've repressed that ump's name from my memory. I'll be sure not to forget Bill Miller's name though.

I thought the HBP no-call on Bautista was the worst call I've ever seen in almost 3 decades of baseball watching...can't believe that was topped less than 2 weeks later.

Obviously I can't speak for him, but I think he wants to make the playoffs more than anything. But that's just an assumption, you never know.

[–]rsrsrsrs 4 points5 points ago

Ya, that's the running joke. The second he gets linked to a player that means we'll never see that guy in a Jays uniform, at least not imminently. Every single guy he's ever been linked to has never happened and all the deals he made (Escobar, Lawrie, Santos, Rasmus, Morrow, Vlad, Vernon trade, etc) came completely out of left field.

So in other words, there's now a zero chance Hamels or Victorino will be playing in a Jays uniform this year.

Foul ball! by Vect0rin baseball

[–]rsrsrsrs 2 points3 points ago

There's far more pretext though than just that pitch. The previous pitch Marquis threw inside and it skimmed Bautista's jersey. He thought he got hit and Bill Welke ruled he didn't. Jose was pretty pissed and openly complaining about it to Welke and anyone who's ever watched baseball for a long time knows he was obviously about to get drilled the next pitch for complaining. And of course, the next pitch almost went behind his back.
