How do I talk to my doctor? by spiegelimspiegelin fibro

[–]sandhouse 1 point2 points ago

There is joint pain with fibromyalgia but no inflammation or creakiness so definitely get that checked out if you think it may be arthritis. That doesn't mean you couldn't also have fibro. Keep in mind that the latest thinking is that pain itself becomes a disease. Also fibro very often comes along with other syndromes and diseases. If the light pressure you are talking about is a pain that feels like it's in the skin you may have something called allodynia.

How do I talk to my doctor? by spiegelimspiegelin fibro

[–]sandhouse 2 points3 points ago

Pain specialist. Most doctors don't know how to treat pain properly. As for ruling out other things to make sure it's fibro. Ask ask ask. This is your life and your body we're talking about. If one doc won't give you what you know you need you fire him/her and get somebody who will. I know finding new doctors is a huge expensive hassle and especially hard to deal with when you're sick all the time. Don't be afraid to ask sympathetic loved ones for help. Good luck.

I think I'm a dude in a chick's body. by whatsthatinmypantsin self

Well it sounds like you're on the right path. The next step seems to be a big act of bravery. Have you looked for some sort of support group? There are often groups for lgbt young people or for trans people. You could even just look for friends online who are also transgender. Take a deep breath and go for it. I'm sure you won't regret it.

I think I'm a dude in a chick's body. by whatsthatinmypantsin self

[–]sandhouse 2 points3 points ago

Well you are basically "fucked in the head" or fucked in the body depending on how you look at it. I suppose one way of looking at it is more PC than the other. That doesn't mean you have anything to be ashamed of or can't have a perfectly happy life. It will just take time and adjustment for you and your loved ones. If they already accept you being gay or bi or tomboy etc then it might not be as big a deal to them as you think if you decided you are transgender or even transexual. I really think a big key is acceptance of yourself. You are what you are an so what? There's no need to try to fit yourself under any label at all. Male, female, trans, bi, those are ultimately just words. All you really have to do is try to be happy so go for it. Be patient with yourself and make some friends who are like you or just accept you from the start.

If you have any evidence of supernatural stuff happening, go collect your $1,000,000 dollars. by srslolin Supernatural

[–]sandhouse 1 point2 points ago

Um. Yay for James Randi and all that but in case you haven't noticed this is just a fictional tv show. It's for entertainment. Same as like ... Star Wars. Do you watch the show? It often makes fun of ghost hunters and psychics and reinvents Judeochristian myths and portrays God as an uncaring father that abandoned all creation even as the apocalypse approaches. Anyway, it's a great show. I would have you compare it to something like Medium or Ghost Whisperer and see what big difference it is. Supernatural takes this stuff and makes it entertaining and silly. They fight off ghosts with salt for fucks sake.

You ever realize that America got all the idiots? by Randomacityin self

[–]sandhouse 1 point2 points ago

You could go a step further and realize that we have a weird combination here. Yeh we got the religious wackos, the criminals, the poor, etc. but also a whole lot of optimistic opportunists. And we started out as a disadvantaged backwater but then we had the revolution and some pretty smart people took what was at the time some pretty advanced ideas (I think it was modeled after some stuff the French were doing?) and gave us our constitution and some pretty nice civil rights. (For whites anyway.) We also have a nice abundance of natural resources. It's interesting to look at how this combination of dumbasses, opportunists, a good foundational constitution, and natural resources has all interacted to give us our history and present day state. America is weird.

Free Kindle books? by maddiej214in books

[–]sandhouse -1 points0 points ago

You're right. It's better to get the paper book from a library. I forgot about that fact. Here's my sitch personally which is probably pretty rare. I'm disabled and it can be pretty uncomfortable if not impossible to read a paper book much less leave the house and go to the library. I had stopped reading altogether before my brother gave me a kindle for xmas which was pretty depressing. For xmas and my bday I always get money and spend it on kindle books. So I pay for my books when I can but obviously I don't even work so it's not often that I can do that. I do my best to support good authors by reviewing and asking for somebody to buy me their book when it's super cheap as an ebook. I'm not going to pirate an independent author's work when it's 2 bucks for example.

Anyway, personally this is my system and I consider it the best I can do. Others should probably find their consciences more clear if they used a library and legally free books so you win this one congrats.

My whole point is that there is no money in my pocket to go into the writer's pocket. He loses literally nothing. I don't know how I could be more clear.

Free Kindle books? by maddiej214in books

[–]sandhouse 0 points1 point ago

Stealing intellectual property involves using it to benefit yourself and not the originator. If you aren't selling it or otherwise benefiting from it I don't see how it could be classified as stealing. "Stealing" is a matter of morality and morality always comes down to one simple question - Is anyone getting hurt? In this case no. So I see no reason for any sort of guilt.

Free Kindle books? by maddiej214in books

[–]sandhouse -1 points0 points ago

If you're someone who has no money and couldn't pay for it if you wanted to it's not stealing. It's a copy of media not an object. No harm is done to the writer or anyone else. They are simply not getting money that they would never have gotten in the first place. Because that money doesn't exist.

Grapes of Wrath synopsis I just sent to a friend who is frustrated at the prospect of competing with 212 people for a job. by TruthWithoutTactin books

[–]sandhouse 1 point2 points ago

Any similarities are enough to impact someone's life after reading a story about the past. I read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle in my late teens and since then have never considered a job below me or really been able to sincerely complain. Reading these stories, although they are fictionalized history, is enough to impact how we live. Someone comparing it to their present day problems shouldn't be discouraged.

Is it normal to get really bad visual disturbances before a migrain? by Nyssa_Hotaruin Health

[–]sandhouse 1 point2 points ago

When I get them I just lay down in the dark and if I can't sleep listen to a podcast (I don't like music and it keeps me from being bored and distracts from the symptoms). What really helps is being able to nap. By the time I wake up it's usually over. 99% of the time my silent migraines last less than four hours. Anyway, you should google silent migraines and migraines in general and see if you can determine whether you should see your doc.

Is this healthy? by marnargulusin self

[–]sandhouse 0 points1 point ago

Do you count your fruit as sugar intake? I have a bit of a hard time believing four servings of fruit is less than 100 calories of sugar. Anyway I was just wondering if you are able to not be hungry because you are eating low carb intentionally or unintentionally. From what you said though I can't really determine how many carbs you might be eating. Sounds like not low carb though. Your antidepressant probably has a lot to do with your success. In any case I was just curious.

Is it normal to get really bad visual disturbances before a migrain? by Nyssa_Hotaruin Health

[–]sandhouse 11 points12 points ago

It's very normal. In fact it's possible to get a "silent migraine" without any pain and only these visual problems. I get them sometimes. But if you are worried about it and have a lot of migraines by all means see a doctor.
