If it is true, the girl was probably just worried she'd hurt her friend's feelings, and was concerned whether he would still remain her friend. By the mom asking the brother, maybe she was trying to bridge a sibling gap as if to show the sister, hey your brother might have better perspective than me, and he's there for you too. IDK.

The procedure can't be done twice on the same hand, from what I've understood speaking to my doctor. Pain afterwards can be caused from scar tissue. I imagine there's a chance of anything going wrong from a) it not working b) hitting a nerve and rendering your whole hand numb, etc, but, I think some people who say it didn't work left it too long and the damage became permanent. If it is permanent, surgery won't fix it.

My doctor says, it doesn't return, that damage is permanent, or pain from scar tissue exists, but you don't get it done twice.

I've never done injections or other types of therapy.

If you leave it, think about this: What if you leave it so long that when you finally get the surgery done-- it doesn't help.. and you are stuck with a hand that is constantly in pain, and you can't do what you love? I mean, it's a good chance you're already there, but leaving it will only secure that.

I've never heard of wrist braces fixing carpal tunnel. My mom wore braces for the pain for years, and it didn't fix her. The tendon is basically squeezing on the nerves too tightly, and the surgeon goes in and puts a small snip in it to relieve the pressure.

You would have to get someone to help drive you, and get speech to text software-- this is your hand you're talking about. In the end, you have to decide, what's more important? I can't answer this for you. You have to make the decision as to what's more important, really.

Surgeon didn't tell me to abstain from anything, directly, but i imagine you wait until it's fully healed because you could tear stitches and possibly cause scarring? I know my mom didn't listen and she has a scar where one of her stitches broke and pulled away. Use common sense, and listen to the pain in your hand. Take it easy. :)

Uh hmm.. when I got it... uh, I presume I ruined my wrist for single-handedly lifting tubs of mail in the post office sorting plant, which was stupid of me, but most of the time they weren't that heavy. I mean, the doctors didn't pinpoint anything but, I noticed it after getting my permanent job there (I quit to teach after 1 year I think).

That must've been 2008? Mind you, my symptoms were on the light side.

I went to my family doctor and complained about numbness in my ring finger and baby finger. It happened when drawing, painting, and driving-- anytime I really used my wrist for too long, and sometimes would spread to my whole hand. She then recommended me to see a neurologist(?) who did the electrode(?) test, I'm ?ing because I'm not sure I have the specific right names. He then said I had it severely in my right hand and somewhat in my left (forgot the exact words). The report went to my family doctor who told me that the recommended treatment was surgery. As I was in school at the time, and it was more of an annoyance, I left it. My mom has had hers for years, and upon finding out that the damage could be permanent she opted immediately for surgery (she had bad pain in addition to numbness). After she went for the surgery, I set up my appointment with the plastic surgeon (same doctor my mom had seen). Got it done, and I don't notice yet any ill effects, but I imagine it's very early. My mom has complained of pain (this is after her stitches have been removed), like twinges, and while she can use her hand again, she is still weak, and it is still healing. If I'm not careful my fingers get stiff, so I flex them regularly throughout the day.

I have the regular pain that I imagine is from any deep cut, but most of my pain still comes from my hand where the doctor injected the third freezing needle, lol, I imagine she was rough and bruised it (then again I bruise easily). Twinges into my forearm with pain. Was given Tylenol 3, but am alternating between that and percocet because I'm also suffering from kidney stones. First 24hrs are 100% the worst. It hurt so bad, my eyes were watering. Haven't had the bandage removed yet. Will do so tomorrow at plastic surgeons office. (Would've done today, but appt with urologist had to have that postponed). So, 3-4 days no getting it wet, etc, so far.

You will need someone to take care of you, because you cannot push yourself with your hand, less you'd like your stitches to rip. Seriously. Not worth it. And a lot of using other hand for things.

Friend of my mom got both her hands done at same time, and she has been telling everyone not to do what she did. I imagine it's near impossible to do anything for yourself at that point.

I will def tell you anything you want to know. Ask away. I don't know what else to say :)

Had it Friday. Don't know about downtime yet, but freezing needle kills, procedure painless, but first 24hrs is bad. After that, gets better.

Can't say yet if happy, but hope I caught it soon enough the damage was not permanent. Lots of pain first 24hours, Tylenol 3/Percocet doesn't remove all of the pain. You need to sleep the first 24hrs really, even just lifting it off the pillow hurt. Move fingers to stop from becoming stiff, but they pull and hurt the surgical area :/ Sucks, but gets better after first 24hrs, and the pain is more manageable with the meds after that. Finding a good surgeon is key. I hated having to be awake for it, but the needles for freezing were honestly really painful, and the only pain I felt for the procedure. Sorry for shitty typing-- 1 hand.

Are you sure this was carpel tunnel? I had the same surgery just a few days ago, and there is definitely no cutting of bone.
