Dress me up! Here's my bare face, what should I try? by phantom_pooin MakeupAddiction

[–]spiegelimspiegel 1 point2 points ago

I have hooded eyes too. Sometimes what I like to do is go apeshit concealing undereye darkness, then pop a superbright color on the whole hooded area of the lower lid from wherever that crease is to the lash line. I've been loving the NARS duo "Burn It Blue" for this. I soften the harsh oval of color with something neutral and shimmery and pull it up toward the brow bone so there is a little blending of the color that extends above the hood. I tend to reapply the superbright right over the center of the lid just to make sure I get the color saturation I'm looking for.

Then I do a gel liner thinner in the inner corner and thicker in the outer and then eight pounds of mascara. The end! Might work for you, might not. Yay eye cousins!

You can add amla powder to preserve wavy/curliness.

Dying hair with henna? by mallory19in FancyFollicles

If you have medium-brown hair, a proper henna application will give you an auburn tint with a strong red sheen in the light. It adds shine and strength. Try if you an to use body-art quality henna. Hennasooq is a great resource and supplier! Know that if you dye with henna, it's quite complicated to remove. It might also loosen your wave--it has a tendency to straighten hair slightly. Personally, I love the effect. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you decide to do it and want a recipe! I have tons. :)

Any experiences with Raw Color or Manic Panic? by doomfestin FancyFollicles

[–]spiegelimspiegel 2 points3 points ago

I have no idea what pleasepostmybail means by "it's common knowldge that Manic Panic should be avoided at all costs" because I use it regularly with great success to boost the henna red in my hair. The only downside I see to it at all is that it fades somewhat quickly. But for a color boost and conditioning, its a wonderful addition to my routine.

If you successfully bleach your hair beforehand and use one of the amplified formulas, you should get a great color payoff. There is nothing wrong with leaving the color on for a long time--two hours, with added heat if you can, and the color will penetrate quite well.

Oh god thank you for finally clarifying the pronunciation of L'Occitane for me.

Yeah I think I would say "len" as in "lend" rather than "lane" even, being a northeasterner. If my solidly northeastern mom said "lane" it would come out as the two-syllable word "lay-ine."

Fibro and "Shark Week" by KPretzin fibro

[–]spiegelimspiegel 2 points3 points ago

I hear you on the young part. In addition to fibro I have a condition that a large majority of the time affects post-menopausal women, and I'm 23. I think there should be a special place for young sick people--there's such a different element to it. I know that many older people who are sick were also sick as young people, but going through it for the first time is just hard. Everyone else is at their best, the best they'll ever be, and you're already like an old person. Sucks big time.

I want to say that I have a huge amount of sympathy for you. I feel powerless and weak having to ask my husband to do a lot of things for me (put the plates away because I can't lift them, vacuum because it hurts me to do it, etc.) but if I had a whole society telling me that I should be strong all the time, it would be SO much worse. Unbearable really.

Maddest of props for being able to hold it in. But if you ever need to vent about it, PM me and we can whine at each other. I do find that helps (if I'm not in too much pain to type).

What popular makeup looks are you personally not a fan of? by murphy_rantsin MakeupAddiction

The statement lip with little to no eye makeup/just mascara. I can't say that I hate it all the time, but it's one of those things that I think looks better in a magazine than in real life.

That is so incredible!! I'm going to do some reading now...women generals! I just looked through some wikipedia pages, but are there any books you can recommend for someone wanting to know more about the history and ideas of Sikhism?

Now I am really curious about the manner in which Sikh boys go through the rite of passage that allows them to carry a kirpan...it must be such an emotional experience.

A few questions. Just tried "no poo" method and now my hair smells really vinegary. Help! by tomatopotatotomatoin FancyFollicles

[–]spiegelimspiegel 0 points1 point ago

The thing about no-poo is you're going to have to find out what works for you. I'm sure there are some hairsprays (or you can even use aloe gel!) that can work with no-poo...try looking on the longhair community for threads about no-poo.

I do think that people who have done no-poo do say that washing takes you back to baseline and that you have to adjust again...possibly it takes less time. Again, check out the site! And good luck!! :)

You can use a tiny bit of jojoba oil on the length (at least 2-3" away from your scalp, preferably only from ears on down) to soften it up and then just untangle slowly with a wide-toothed comb. This seems to work for my fine but thick hair.

Well, since starting the medication Viibryd, the way my body reacts to the pain has changed. I wouldn't say it's changed my pain level, because as we speak my joints are throbbing in pain and I had to take off a pair of socks because the light pressure on my flesh was so painful.

But it has made me more "jacked up" about my pain. In the past I would go in cycles: be jacked up about the pain, pain and being jacked up prevents sleep at all, pain gets worse, pain gets so bad that I have to pass out for a few days. Over and over. Now I seem to be in an extended "jacked up" phase, which means I am sleeping very little. No problems getting out of bed because even the comfiest of beds is a pain platter, because I'm always in pain!

When you're jacked up, you don't care if you're in pain lying down or going around doing things. I will say that I do "pass out" more for brief periods of time. Barack Obama could be taking me out for an ice cream sundae, but if my body decided it was time for a 5-minute nap, it would shut me down for that amount of time. Weird.

They last the same amount of time. Personally, I find waxing more painful. I also have extremely sensitive skin, so even the most expensive and "non-irritating" waxes made me break out. I feel like waxing is a 3 and threading is a 2--it doesn't pull your skin, and if you have a really good threader it barely hurts at all.

Dude I let those lovely Indian ladies go to town. So painful. Though lately I've taken to covering them with bangs so that I don't have to think about them as often.

OK. So I have the devil's wiry, CURLY brow hairs, but they can be quite sparse. They are thick at the heart of my brow and diffuse up INTO MY HAIRLINE. Yes they extend all the way up.

What I do is get them threaded every month or two to keep a good shape and tweeze obvious hairs inbetween. I fill in the sparse areas with powder or a pencil and then gel the hairs in place.

Once in a while I will trim my brow hairs as they can get quite long.

Trimming, shaping and then filling and gelling keeps them looking clean and tidy. It's a constant struggle but if I do a bit each morning it's no big deal.

Good luck!
