Simple Question Thread 4/29 by MFAModeratorin malefashionadvice

[–]stickytape 0 points1 point ago

The light walnut color of the Strand goes better with lighter colored suits, including navy. It contrasts too sharply with charcoal/black however, so in this situation I would get the black shoes.

Should I keep or return these shoes MFA? Help me decide please. ($85 , Archer Bucks from Land's End) More pictures inside. by stickytapein malefashionadvice

So I just got these in the mail yesterday. I got them for 30% off from Land's End, and I'm having trouble deciding if they are worth keeping. Originally they were $120, but I grabbed them for $85.

What do you guys think? Worth the money? My brother and sister were commenting on how it will be ruined so quickly and that the suede looks cheap, but I think it just looks like regular old suede.

I intend on using waterproofer and suede eraser to keep it clean, so I'm not worried about it being ruined. How does the quality look for the price though?

Also, it is worth noting that on the website the shoe clearly has a white sole ( http://s7.landsend.com/is/image/LandsEnd/412645_A812_LF_CLN?fmt=jpeg,rgb&qlt=80,1&op_sharpen=0&resMode=sharp2&op_usm=0.5,1,3,0&icc=sRGB%20IEC61966-2.1,relative&iccEmbed=1&rgn=0,0,2000,3000&scl=5.882352941176471 ) yet this came with a brown sole. How's this for a young person's interview? by cwillmanin malefashionadvice

[–]stickytape 9 points10 points ago

I'd just wear my swim trunks to the interview.

On a serious note, lose the white undershirt, go with either a v-neck or wife beater, or nothing at all.

The shirt sleeves look a little long, but I think you will be just fine as it is.

The problem I have is with your pants. They seem to create an hourglass shape with your lower half, which looks quite unflattering.

It looks like they are tapered at the knees, but then untaper right past the knees. I could be wrong and you might just have big quads, but I think you should consider investing in a new pair of jeans.

WAYWT — Mar. 17th — St. Paddy's Day by MFAModeratorin malefashionadvice

[–]stickytape 2 points3 points ago

St. Patrick's Day Day at school. I know the laces are pretty over-the-top combined with the green pants, but it wasn't meant to be a totally serious outfit, I was going for "as green as possible."

My pleasure man, good on you for trying to better yourself, especially at the age of 14. I'm only 17 but when I was 14 I wore a big baggy t-shirt and gym shorts to school every day.
It's amazing how your image and self-confidence improves when you decide to start wearing nice clothes.

Just be patient, spend a lot of time here and learn what's good and what's not. Learn the basics, don't take everything to heart though, because a lot of this stuff doesn't always apply to us high schoolers. Stuff like how clothes should fit and basic fashion rules are always good to know and follow though. I'm sure if you follow the advice you see around here you'll be one of the best dressed kids in your school by the start of school next year. Do your research and make smart purchases. The rest is cake.

You're talking about khaki , not cacky, haha. And those kinds of shorts aren't usually meant to be worn with just a t-shirt. I'd invest in some well fitting polos and a few plaid/madras/flannel shirts. Those will go with your khaki shorts and you can wear those casually to school with your jeans too.
I would also look into chinos, try going to your local H&M if you have one, you are very slender and I think their stuff will fit you well, and will be fashionable and still acceptable in school.

Thanks, and the lighting is a little off, my laces are actually the same color as the pants, but now I'm thinking that it was a little much.

I'm thinking of getting these Allen Edmonds for wearing with a gray/charcoal suit or some other formal outfits. My sister says that the pattern is 'too much'. Does MFA agree? by stickytapein malefashionadvice

[–]stickytape[S] 0 points1 point ago

I see, I've had my eye on these Allen Edmond Players for a while now, would those be better with a suit, or are those falling under the informal category as well? I do like the Strands though.

I can get a pair of Allen Edmonds shoes for really cheap. They're in amazing shape except for this 1 scratch. Can this be fixed? by stickytapein malefashionadvice

[–]stickytape[S] 0 points1 point ago

I see, sounds good. Would I be able to find leather dye at stores like Home Depot or what? I can't really think of a place that would sell something like that right off of the top of my head.

[–]stickytape[S] 4 points5 points ago

Yes, they're pre-used, pretty great condition save for this one scratch. And $45 is cheap for AEs in my opinion. Granted, they're not thrift store cheap but I'll take what I can get !

Who owns white bucks? I'm contemplating getting a pair for the spring, but I don't ever see pictures of MFA'ers in them. by Geauxin malefashionadvice

[–]stickytape 1 point2 points ago

I own a pair. The problem is that I just recently got them, and the weather hasn't been nice enough over here to justify wearing them. I'm sure within the next few weeks you'll start seeing them pop up around WAYWTs and such as the weather gets nicer.

How would you classify these: chisel toes, square toes, or neither? by buicein malefashionadvice

[–]stickytape 2 points3 points ago

... The scariest part is that they're sold out.

I just got these shoes in the mail... How should I remove this ugly and intrusive tag? by stickytapein malefashionadvice

[–]stickytape[S] 0 points1 point ago

Interesting... I just checked and I can't seem to find them either... Maybe I got really lucky and got them right before they got taken off the website. Sorry :/
