Want: v. Physician's Procedure Mask

My story:

Playing as a new medic on Badwater, I charged my uber just as we got the cart to the first point. I dutifully followed a heavy up to the roof and ubered him as he got the the door. He stood completely still as I thought, "Go idiot! Kill the sentries!" (I didn't own a mic at this point.)

As the uber faded, he slowly turned and looked at me. Then he flickered and changed into a red spy. Then he facestabbed me to death.

He apologized after, but the whole server was laughing at me. So embarrassing. I need the mask to hide my medic's face.

Is there an acceleration limit? by yourstandin askscience

As said by several commenters at the top of this thread, a massless particle (like a photon) does not accelerate because it cannot travel at any velocity but c.

It sounds like they had to cardiovert him while he was conscious. It can happen. He obviously wasn't in an arrest rhythm, though.

Cop Arrests Fire Fighter for Helping Injured Person by Legerdemain0in videos

[–]thesavagemonk 1 point2 points ago

What!? Is that really true? That seems ridiculous. At least in the video, the engine coming towards the camera is in the wrong, as all emergency vehicles are still required to come to a stop for red lights and stop signs before proceeding (at least in my state).

I hate to be that guy, but there's no such thing as an ambulance driver.

I don't know why somebody downvoted you; this is absolutely true for many states. It varies, of course. In some states "Good Samaritan Laws" only protect trained healthcare providers (from lifeguard to doctor). In others, the law may only cover untrained bystanders.

to all the emergency response professionals, what's the worst reaction that a driver has had when you approached with your lights and sirens on? by notquiteworkingin AskReddit

[–]thesavagemonk 4 points5 points ago

To be honest, it's almost never all that important that the family get there as quickly as the patient. It would be extremely unsafe to have a non-emergency vehicle sandwiched between two emergency vehicles. Sometimes we will allow a family member to ride in the front of the ambulance, but that isn't always possible.

[–]thesavagemonk 17 points18 points ago

We're supposed to do this if someone is being unsafe. Generally it will be a family member who wants to follow the patient to the hospital. It can be very dangerous for them to break traffic laws to follow us, so sometimes we have to stop to talk to them.

Prehospital Research Articles: Trendelenburg Review by thesavagemonkin ems

[–]thesavagemonk[S] 3 points4 points ago

I'm more than happy to do this on a regular basis. I know that not everybody has access to the research databases that I do, and I think it's important that everyone stay up to date on current research, even if their local protocols limit them.

In the future I'll also try to post the abstract or a summary in the comments because I know that not everyone has the time to read through long research articles.

r/emscasestudies by medicthrowawayin ems

[–]thesavagemonk 2 points3 points ago

I don't think case studies are what you're looking for. Case studies are reviews of individual patients; they are not useful for evaluating the effectiveness of treatments and what not. I will try to post some studies along the lines of what you're talking about later tonight.

I agree. This subreddit is small enough that it really doesn't need to be split up.

My local bar claims they serve all of their drinks in mason jars. I thought I had them stumped when I asked about wine, but they laughed and placed this in front of me. by kstebbsin pics

That's why you wait until you're about to hand the patient off to the hospital. Let the ED nurses deal with the angry druggie.

The drug is called Narcan (Naloxone), and it has a half-life of about 30-60 minutes, so they'd be able to get high again pretty soon.

To make an Old Fashioned: (To be made and served in a rocks glass)

  1. Add one sugar cube and saturate the cube with bitters.

  2. Add 1oz. water and muddle until sugar is completely dissolved.

  3. Add a slice of orange peel, slightly larger than a quarter. Muddle.

  4. Fill glass with ice, then add 2oz. bourbon or rye.

Drink. Repeat as necessary.
