2012 vs. 1984: Young adults really do have it harder today - The Globe and Mail by Tarretin worldnews

[–]yutyut -1 points0 points ago

I worked hard and payed my way through college to earn a Computer Science degree so that I can have the high paying job I have now; my mom (dad's dead), didn't pay for anything.

I've got friends and acquaintances that make this same argument. They think that they're owed something for all of the work they put in earning that Anthropology or History degree. They're too stubborn and proud to admit they lacked the foresight to pursue a degree that will get them a job in the real world.

Show me your resume and I bet I can give you ten reasons why you're in the financial situation that you are right now.

PS, I'm going into the Marine Corps as an officer to give back a little bit for the OPPORTUNITY that this country and society have given me.

I'm not arguing the efficacy of the scanners for detecting explosives. I'm arguing that people are making a mountain out of a molehill in regards to the radiation they're being exposed to.

and no one really knows at this point, because no one who doesn't have a financial interest has been able to rigorously examine the machines

Go check out the sources in the "Health Concerns" portion of the article and try and tell me that every one of them has a financial interest. Sources like Johns Hopkins, Columbia University, The Health Physics Society, The American College of Radiology. I could go on...

It's likely to be less ionising radiation than, say, a transpolar flight-

Yes, far less.

Perspective:

"A passenger would need to be scanned using a backscatter scanner, from both the front and the back, about 200,000 times to receive the amount of radiation equal to one typical CT scan..." (1)

"..the amount of radiation from a backscatter scanner is equivalent to about 10 minutes of natural background radiation in the United States..." (1)

"...less than the dose a person receives during four minutes of airline flight. TSA has set their dose limit to ensure a person receives less radiation from one scan with a TSA general-use x-ray security system than from two minutes of airline flight." (2)

"It was terrible! The machine was literally dumping radiation on me! Oh! The humanity!"

It really isn't that much radiation.

heavily armed men

The point is that you are trying to sensationalize this in order to advance your own agenda.

(PS: I'm against the war on drugs but I have a little more sense than to try and paint things in black and white like you're doing here)

luck_y is right.

Anecdotal evidence (via reddit, no less) has shown us that when police are serving a search warrant there is a very good chance they intend to inflict bodily harm on the residents of the targeted domicile.

What do you guys get at Paseo that is amazing? I went for the first time and had the Paseo Press. It was delicious, but did not live up to the hype I see on Reddit.

Crossfit Games scoring by grambo87in crossfit

[–]yutyut 2 points3 points ago

AMRAP 18
15 Box Jumps
12 Push Press
9 T2Bar

I did 7 rounds plus 5 push press so my total score would be:

7 * (15 BJ + 12PP + 9T2B) + 15 Box Jumps + 5 Push Press

= 272 total reps.
