No problem. It was refreshing to have a civil discussion. :)

Yeah that makes sense. At this point most Muslims would bring up that Hadith talking about how you shouldn't be friends with Non-Muslims and all that stuff. I say we live in a very integrated world and it is hard not to be friends with Non-Muslims. Just be careful. Don't ever be peer pressured to do stuff. I have missed countless parties at college (which I am fine with) because there is alcohol there and I do not want to get a sin. I just tell my friends I will see them tomorrow and I browse reddit and play games the rest of the night. Haha

Though some women may be forced the majority I know who wear it do it willingly. Let me go into some detail if that is ok.

The Hijab is something both men and women are told to abide by.

For women as you have seen it is a covering of their beauty which the majority of scholars and the majority opinion is cover everything but the face, hands, and feet essentially. That's why you will see women wearing the hijab with long sleeves and pants. There are also other minor things.

For Muslim men it is to cover from navel to knees. At all times other then when with your spouse or alone. Even in death. Another part is to lower your gaze. Basically the first look at a women is forgiven because God is merciful and knows we are human but the looks after that are not. You are supposed to respect women and not "undress them with your eyes".

Now the point of hijab for both Men and Women is to preserve modesty. Basically save your body for your spouse. Why do you want everyone in the world to be able to see your spouses body? Then it isn't that special when you see it right?

If you have any more questions I would be glad to answer.

Muslim here. Thought I could help.

First off don't let anyone convince you to take off the Hijab to make friends. That is definitely for the wrong reasons.

Second you said you moved to study so I assume you are at a university? I did the same thing. I am currently finishing up my first year at a university in Chicago. My advice in this area is start local. make friends in classes, dorms, clubs, etc. Start with girls because many of them will find it easier to talk to a sister with a Hijab.

Thirdly, any reason for the preference for non-muslim friends? A lot of universities have Muslim Student Associations where it is easy to meet other muslim students and make friends. I am not saying non-muslim friends are bad. Some of my closest friends are non-muslim. Just wondering why you are only wanting to friend them.

Hope I helped! Feel free to ask more questions.

Just wondering, can we give non-halal foods to non-muslims? by bizzishin islam

You could eat it yourself. Many scholars agree that Gelatin is permissible. Some light reading from Suhaib Webb's website.

Ok it seems like everyone here just end up agreeing with your Muslim Friends. Sorry about that.

None of us know when the Day of Judgement will be. There are signs but it could be tomorrow or in a couple billion years.

I like to believe one day Humans will colonize other planets and live there. I am a big fan of science fiction and for it to come true would be amazing.
