No problem :). I hope things get better for you.

I think it's like how the common cold is now colloquially called "the flu". If anyone I know so much as develops a cough or slight discomfort in their throat, they have caught the flu.

No, the flu is horrible and lasts more than a day. Bad headaches are not migraines (and even with a bad headache, I can't stand looking at my phone or a computer screen). Stop being dramatic.

My husband had severe migraines in his teen years, and rants and raves about people who claim to have migraines while at work. "If you really had a migraine, you couldn't be on your computer right now!!! IT'S NOT A MIGRAINE!"

I had a problem when I first started going where I wouldn't switch doctors if it just wasn't working for me. I didn't feel like I was being heard, and I think I came out worse for it for a while because I didn't have a doctor who cared a single bit about my well-being in the end. I could basically ask for meds and he'd give them.

Later on, I wanted to try again. I found doctors who seemed to really care if I was better or not, and treatment was MUCH better. Also, remember, meds shouldn't make you feel like a numb zombie. You should feel BETTER, as in more normal. I didn't know this my first time around and ended up in a really bad self-destructive place because of it.

If you ever need to talk to someone, PM me.

See a doctor. A therapist. A psychiatrist.

Despite Reddit's usual insistence, there are some forms of depression that DO require medication to remedy. Sometimes exercise/eating right/etc. aren't enough.

hugs from someone who's been there.

Daughters of Reddit! I'm a new Dad. What's your single best piece of "fathering" advice? by prosskin AskReddit

[–]zjtihmm 47 points48 points ago

When my dad found out I wasn't a virgin anymore, he called me a whore.

It destroyed me (I had been with the boyfriend for three years at the time, and only him...) and there's a part of me that has never been able to let go of the vitriole that came out of my father's mouth when he said it to me.

Don't be that guy.

I went to three proms (freshman, sophomore, and junior year). If you don't have friends who are going or you don't enjoy the entire aspect of it, it's really not worth it. Don't let people think you're going to regret it.

U.S. Consulate in Montreal : Security Message for U.S. Citizens – Student Protests by [deleted]in montreal

My mom was visiting over the last week, and we spent a few days downtown (I live outside of the city) and didn't see a single thing involving the protests. Don't worry about it. I'm sure it's easily avoidable if it's still going on, so long as you keep up to date on protest locations.

Goddamn, I envy you.

In the DC metro area, we had a few days off of school. I think it was simply the shock throughout the area (many people had family members/friends who worked in NYC or in the Pentagon), and I remember life kind of grinding to a halt for a few days.

A similar thing happened with the DC sniper case was going on.

Does anyone have any experience with traveling with their parrot across borders? by zjtihmmin parrots

We just want him to be able to go places with us. We have someone who's been watching him, but I don't feel like he's getting the care he needs there (he's also kind of difficult with new people), and I also always hate leaving him behind (he's one of my many babies, haha). It'd just be nice to take him along and show him the world :). Iago is always fascinated by snow and rain falling...this winter, he'd just sit on his perch and watch it fall. So sweet :).

Haha, thank you! We're hoping when he starts picking up more than just single words, he'll learn that, hehe. So many things I need to teach him...

It's okay! I actually think most exotic birds are on there. Some are waived (esp. small ones like cockatiels, parakeets, etc), but most of the larger/rarer ones require the permits.

It's under Appendix II and requires permits from both countries to travel across borders. I've looked all of this up already, I just wanted to know if anyone has actually done it.

What's your favorite kind of parrot and why? by W7nglessin parrots

[–]zjtihmm 1 point2 points ago

If he wants to, absolutely. Usually, he's pretty gentle or he's giving a warning bite, but he has made me bleed a few times. If he gets frustrated, he'll bite down. Welcome to birds! Haha.

It's very adorable until he decides he's had enough of this waiting game and bites my lip to get to my teeth ;). And dodging birdy beak for an hour gets exhausting, but at least he lets me pet him while he does it.

I also have a Grey, and like people said about Amazons, I don't know if I'd recommend one unless you really have the time for them. He's quite pesky and moody, but I wouldn't trade him for anything because he's amazing and sweet the rest of the time :). He's the only bird I've ever owned and cared for, so I can't say much about others. I DO think cockatiels are really really sweet, and conures are beautiful and seem to be quite nice, if not loud. Greys and Amazons require a ton of attention and one-on-one time though, and definitely have minds of their own. See: Iago has been sitting on my chest for almost an hour now trying to get my teeth whenever I talk. He's fascinated by them, and also sticks out his tongue because he wants me to do it back.

Birds are great, but I recommend thinking about how much time you'll have daily to dedicate to them and how much of a workload you really want to put up with! :)

I was wondering if those acrylic toys were okay for birds. I just haven't wanted to give him something that he'll potentially rip apart, eat pieces of, and then get sick/die from some sort of poisoning :(. Thanks for the recommendation!

He's fantastic, if not a bit bite-y and grumpy sometimes :P. He's already constantly saying the few words he knows, I can't imagine what it's going to be like that far down the road.
